Successful season ends with a draw
On 19 June 1974, PAOK sealed a successful season during which they won their second Greek Cup and reached the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, where they faced AC Milan.
On the last matchday of the A’ Ethniki league, PAOK and Olympiacos Volos had no particular aspirations.
Three days after their Greek Cup trophy celebrations, the “Double-Headed Eagle” were missing several key players for their last league encounter, as Koudas and Τerzanidis were injured, while Τsiligiridis was sidelined with suspension. Meanwhile, during the encounter, Kostas Iosifidis picked up an injury and limped off the pitch in the 65th minute.
PAOK remained in command, with few goalscoring chances in the first half and more after the interval. Aslanidis (63′) scored the opener with a powerful shot, but Valachas leveled for the visitors against the run of play following a rare counterattack of the Volos outfit. Sarafis wasted the chance to give PAOK the lead once more in the 82nd minute, as the ball landed on the woodwork.
PAOK’s line-up on the last matchday of 1973-74 league was the following: Stefas, Gounaris, Pellios, Fountoukidis, Iosifidis (65′ Lazos), Anastasiadis, Apostolidis, Tsakiropoulos (46′ Kermanidis), Sarafidis, Aslanidis, Paridis.
