«Clear mind and quick reaction»

PAOK coach Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV and shared his thoughts about the upcoming clash against Panathinaikos. You can read everything that the Romanian tactician said on paokfc.gr:

08.12.2017

On whether he knows which players he can count on for Sunday’s match:

«I believe that almost all our players are available. Campos and Maurício sure are. There is hope for Vieirinha. Prijović has started preparing for the match. Mystakidis won’t be available, as he has been out of action for a long time and he needs to work on his match fitness and prepare mentally. He needs to regain his focus and reaction ability«.

On whether he can surprise their rivals with his line-up:

«I am not into that kind of situations. I usually wait for my players until the last minute. My experience has shown me that even in the last training session a player can convince me with his eagerness. Even if I decide my line-up two days earlier, I won’t tell it to anyone and it doesn’t matter. Besides, everything depends on us and what we do on the pitch. We know our opponents, they also know us. We have the whole picture and can be fully prepared. What matters more is our morale. Organization and hard work will be key in order to win«.

On whether he worked on specific aspects of the game with his players:

«We are trying to do that in every training session. We aim to improve our players. For example, today we worked on our build-up play. It had been a long time since we focused on it and we deemed it necessary to do so today. That’s football. Repetition is of the essence in order to learn some things. During the drills, it’s also important to talk to players separately. Such conversations can be very useful for the players«.

On set pieces:

«Everything is important, not just set pieces. We need to take advantage of every situation«.

On the fans returning to Toumba:

«Having the fans on our side is very important to us. Especially in Greece and more so at PAOK. They provide us with energy and propel us to victories, while exercising pressure on our rivals. It’s difficult for any visiting team to play in Toumba. It’s a very important match, just like all of them are. We want to win those three points and, in order to make it, we need to be very focused«.

On what he expects of Panathinaikos:

«Some spells influence a team considerably. Panathinaikos have a solid team with good players. They are organized and experienced and know how to wait for their rivals’ mistakes. They also have good physical condition. We need to be patient, have clear mind, avoid mistakes and react quickly after losing the ball«.

On transfers and on-loan players:

«My only concern is Sunday’s match and I don’t want to talk about anything else today«.
