PAOK FC wish all the best to Dimitris Papadopoulos, who celebrates his 33rd birthday this Monday 20 October.
Born on 20 October 1981 at Gagarin of the former Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, Papadopoulos stands at 1,80 m. and started his career at Akratitos. In 2001 he moved to English outfit Burnley FC and then returned to Greece for Panathinaikos where he stayed for 5 seasons. After spells at US Lecce, GNK Dinamo Zagreb and Celta de Vigo, he rejoined the Greek Super League –first at the ranks of Levadiakos and then to Panthrakikos and, last season, to Atromitos.
He earned his first cap for Greece back in 2002 and was a member of the most illustrious Greece squad, the one that won the UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal. He played twice in that tournament and is credited with the assist to Zisis Vryzas for the all important goal against Russia that saw Greece qualify to the quarter-finals. He has a total of 22 caps and has scored twice for the national side.
He won the domestic double with Panathinaikos in 2003-04 and the Croatian league title with GNK Dinamo Zagreb (2009-10).
