PAOK – ACF Fiorentina: Mixed zone
Here is what the “Double-Headed Eagle” players said in the mixed zone after the final whistle of the encounter against ACF Fiorentina for matchday 1 of the UEFA Europa League.
Dimitris Pelkas returned to the starting line-up and spoke about the fine display of PAOK against strong ACF Fiorentina:
«We played against a tough opponent, a strong side. We stood up to ACF Fiorentina. We could have even run away with victory in the 93rd minute, had we been awarded that penalty. However the draw is a fair result and we put on a positive performance.
ACF Fiorentina play at a higher pace than the teams we have faced so far. They also play a different system, but we were able to adjust and level the encounter.
We need to win on Monday, earn three points and remain on top«.
Panagiotis Glykos, who was decisive on Thursday with crucial saves, said the following:
«I did what I had to do and helped my team. We worked as a team and every player deserved to be congratulated for their effort. It is a positive result against a very strong side and a fine start to our UEFA Europa League campaign.
I need to keep always calm, help my team and give it 100%.
I believe it was a positive and a fair result. Holding such a rival to a draw is far from easy. They had their share of chances, as we also had.«.
Garry Rodrigues spoke about his last-minute penalty appeal that was denied by the referee:
«I a satisfied with the 0-0 result. I believe we defended well. ACF Fiorentina are a good side and we were successful in containing them. It was a clear handfoul. In my book that is a penalty, but the referee was not… our friend«.
