An old acquaintance at Toumba

Catalan referee Javier Estrada Fernández has been assigned the encounter between PAOK and FC Schalke 04 in Toumba Stadium, for the UEFA Europa League last 32 stage.

14.02.2017

Born on 27 January 1976, Javier Estrada made his Primera División debut in 2009. He earned his FIFA badge in 2011 and in 2013 he refereed his first UEFA Europa League matches. He handled the final game of the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Last season, he got his first match in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, a 2-2 between PFC CSKA Moscow and AC Sparta Prague.

The Spanish referee crosses paths with the “Double-Headed Eagle” for the third time, but it’s his first Toumba visit. He took charge of their UEFA Europa League group stage encounter at Qäbälä FC in fall 2015, that ended in goalless draw. In the current season, he was assigned the first leg of the UEFA Champions League 3rd qualifier against AFC Ajax in Amsterdam (1-1).

The 41-year-old will be accompanied by fellow Spaniards Miguel Martínez Munuera and Teodoro Sobrino, the assistant referees, with Pau Cebrián Devís acting as fourth official. Alejandro Hernández and Ricardo de Burgos complete the team as additional assistant referees.
