You, our brothers, who live on and watch down over us…
It’s said that a person dies twice. Once when they leave this world and then again the last time when someone mentions their name. Charalambos, Christina, Dimitris, Anastasios, Giorgos and Kyriakos left us on that fateful that night 20 years ago, on 04.10.1999, but they will remain immortal in our hearts and minds forever.
The PAOK FC family gathered together today to honor the memory of six innocent, young eagles. The six supporters who left their homes to go and watch their favorite team but never returned. Time stopped for them in the Tembi Valley.
Twenty years later, our memories of them are stronger than ever. And, it will continue to get even stronger because we will never forget these six names, and we’ll carry them with us forever in our hearts. Our brothers will celebrate and share in every success with us. They will feel the disappointment during the difficult times as well, but they will always be there beside us all.
And we, for our part, will also be there for them every year to honor the memory of these six young people for whom fate dealt a harsh hand.
This year’s ceremony, 20 years after the tragic incident, was attended by PAOK’s Vice President and CEO Makis Gagatsis, along with board member Dimokratis Papadopoulos. They stood beside ordinary fans of the team, who shouted and cheered as one, «You live on our brothers, you drive us forward». Our very own little Giannakis was also present.
The two trophies from last year’s historic double were also there at the monument at Tembi. The least we could do to honor the fallen six. After all, every success we have belongs first to those who are not with us.
Paokfc.gr was at the ceremony and recorded the event with a series of images from what was a moving ceremony.
