Game over in 11 minutes
The international break clearly did its job in making PAOK’s players hungry to get back to scoring in the Super League, as three goals in the first 11 minutes at the Toumba effectively ended the game against Lamia as a contest early on.
Abel Ferreira selected Ingi Ingason in defence in the place of the injured Fernando Varela, while the Portuguese coach also handed Miroslav Stoch a placed in the starting XI. The crowd filled Toumba to create a great atmosphere, so the foundation for a successful afternoon were well in place .
And PAOK took just 11 minutes to wrap up the victory, with three early goals settling things from an early stag, the tempo dropping considerably in the second half.
The home side opened the scoring after just two minutes through Misic’s powerful shot from distance, and four minutes later Limnios headed in a Giannoulis cross to double the advantage. Then, in the 11th minute, Karol Swiderski flicked home a clinical third goal to make it 3-0.
The visitors did not threaten the home goal at all, while PAOK missed further opportunities to extend their lead, with both Swiderski and Crespo unlucky not to score as the hosts sealed a comfortable three-point haul.
The biggest cheer of the night though was reserved for the 84th minute when returning captain Adelino Vierinha came on in place of Limnios for the first time after a six-month injury absence.
Ferreira’s team will now switch their attention to the away game at Volos on Saturday (26.10, 19:30).
