Razvan Lucescu again tested various players and situations, gave increased playing time to some players, and drew his final conclusions before the start of competitive matches.

The Dutch side started strong, pressing high, and creating chances, but it was PAOK who took the lead.

In the ninth minute, Konstandelias stole possession in an advanced position, passed to Chalov, who in turn fed A. Zivkovic, and the Serb with a perfectly placed finish made it 1-0 to PAOK.

The home team found a response 10 minutes later from the penalty spot via Tseri, but again PAOK was more clinical in front of goal and ended the first half with a 2-1 lead.

After another interception high up the pitch, Chalov combined with A. Zivkovic, creating an opening for Sastre on the right and he found Konstandelias who scored in the 48th minute, making sure PAOK went into the dressing rooms at half-time in good spirits with the lead.

The second half started with Nijmegen equalizing in the 64th minute with a header by El Kahati after a corner.

PAOK found balance after a series of substitutions though, and managed to take the lead again on 84 minutes.  Ivanusec controlled a pass from A. Zivkovic nicely, fired in a shot, and although Kretaj initially blocked it, the Croatian collected the ball on the rebound and picked out Ozdoev who provided the assist for Taison to score the winner and make the final score 3-2.

PAOK lineups:

PAOK (1st half): Pavlenka, Sastre, Kedziora, Michailides, Taylor, Kamara, Meite, Konstantelias, Pelkas, A.Zivkovic, Chalov.
(2nd half): Gugesashvili, Kenny, Kedziora (98′ Bataoulas), Lovren, Baba, Kamara (98′ Tsopuroglu), Ozdoev, Ivanusec, Taison, A.Zivkovic (91′ Hatsidis), Chalov (78′ Mythos).
