PAOK Academy Workshop – Mind the Gap
The annual PAOK Academy conference is becoming an institution, an initiative with a clear educational and pedagogical character, dedicated to both young athletes and their parents. With a firm focus on the proper development of children on and off the field, PAOK invests in knowledge, information and the formation of healthy habits and standards.
The workshop, entitled “The Athlete in Developmental Football – Mind the Gap”, is based on the UEFA Grassroots program and the principles of the Child Protection Policy of the Hellenic Football Federation and aims to substantially empower athletes and their families, through processes that strengthen not only their athletic, but also their broader educational and social background.
During this year’s event, the organization’s executives always developed timely and important thematic sections concerning:
- The impact of screen use on the life and performance of athletes (PAOK Academy doctor Iraklis Giannaros
- Injuries and the rehabilitation process in the developmental age (PAOK B doctor Argyris Karavelis)
- The expectations of parents of elite athletes (PAOK Academy psychologist Evangelos Kleitsas).
It is important to make it clear that parental involvement in the athletic career of young athletes can be decisive. As has been documented in international bibliography, the attitude and behavior of parents – whether expressed through support or through excessive demands – directly affects the motivation and overall experience of children in sports. Hence, the so-called «athletic triangle», the triad formed by the athlete, the coach and the parents, acquires particular importance. parents. Each side of the triangle carries specific roles and responsibilities, which, when operating complementary, create the conditions for a meaningful, safe and positive sports experience.
Active presence of the PAOK family
The conference was held with the active presence of the PAOK family, highlighting in practice the importance of cooperation between athletes, parents and coaches. The interventions of our emblematic captain Andre Vieirinha, and Giorgos Toursounidis, as well as PAOK Academy coaches gave special value to the event, with the common denominator being the development and transition from the role of athlete to that of professional.
Dimitris Orfanos, Andreas Balambanis, Kosmas Vakoufaris, and Antonis Krinitsas, through their personal paths, conveyed a strong message to children and parents. That education, proper guidance and the comprehensive development of personality they can open up perspectives beyond the competitive role, shaping well-rounded people and football professionals.
