Born on 6 November 1975 in Porto, Mário Jorge dos Santos Branco worked for Portuguese daily “O Jogo” in the mid-‘90s as a football reporter.

He is a UEFA Pro-Licence holder and has a degree in Sports Management. He is proficient in English and Spanish and can also speak French, Italian and Romanian!

In 1999, he got a more active role in football, taking over as scout for “Prosport” and held that position until 2004.

In 2005 he worked as scout for Spanish club Pontevedra CF and assumed a similar role for Wisła Kraków in the following season.

He got… promoted in 2006, becoming chief scout of KGHM Zagłębie Lubin and stayed with the Polish club for two seasons. In 2008, he accepted the offer of FC Steaua București to lead their scouting department and held that post until 2009.

After his Romanian adventure, he remained in Portugal for two seasons as sports director of Leixões SC and in 2011 he returned to Romania to take on the role of AFC Astra Giurgiu’s technical director.

Two years later, he was on the move again. He returned to his homeland for the post of sports director at GD Estoril Praia. In his first season there, he helped the team rewrite history books, as they finished 4th in the Primeira Liga and qualified to the UEFA Europa League group stage.

During Branco’s four-year spell with the Portuguese club, GD Estoril Praia managed to qualify on two more occasions to the UEFA Europa League and didn’t spend more than 800.000 euros for players’ acquisitions…

In 2016 he decided to move on and accept the offer of HNK Hajduk Split. As technical director of the Croatian club, he had a successful record of players’ sales.
