Rodrigo Rey<\/strong> was born on 8 March 1991 in Las Parejas, a city in the province of Santa Fe. Like almost every kid in Argentina, he went into football at a very early age. Back then of course, he used to feature at the other end of the pitch, as forward. But he gradually backed his position, until he found his calling as goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

He joined the academy of Atl\u00e9tico Club de Las Parejas and stood out almost immediately, catching the eye of scouts browsing the neighbourhoods in search of young promising talents. When Rodrigo was 12, his father rejected an offer by FC Barcelona, but a year later he consented to a more accessible option, his son signing for Club Atl\u00e9tico River Plate.<\/p>\n

He remained in Buenos Aires for nine years. He went through all age groups of River Plate and the national team\u2019s youth sides, without becoming the starting goalkeeper though. He was included in the Albiceleste squad that competed in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, playing second fiddle to Esteban Andrada, now featuring at Club Atl\u00e9tico Lan\u00fas.<\/p>\n

At the age of 22, Rey decided to leave River Plate for Club Atl\u00e9tico Newell’s Old Boys. His side fought for the league and eventually won it, with Nahuel Guzm\u00e1n as starting goalkeeper. As a result, Rey didn\u2019t get the time on the pitch that he was craving for.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2014, he opted for CD Godoy Cruz and change his luck. He was successful. He started on the bench, but soon he got a place in the initial line-up and established himself.<\/p>\n

In two seasons, he featured in 76 encounters as CD Godoy Cruz finished second in their league group and returned to the Copa Libertadores. Rey was voted second best goalkeeper of the season in Argentina. He won the affection of fans and club administration and his coach, Lucas Bernardi, entrusted him with the captain\u2019s armband as a reward for his efforts and role in the team.<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s time for the next big step in his career. Rey crosses the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, having accepted PAOK\u2019s offer.<\/p>\n
