After a temporary suspension to the magazine’s circulation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Schedia is returning stronger then ever, as well as more ‘carefully’. In order to further ‘shield. and ‘protect’ the magazine’s street vendors, PAOK has donated a significant amount of protective masks for all sellers in Thessaloniki<\/strong>. And of course, along with their protective masks, they also received a black and white gift.<\/p>\n

PAOK<\/strong> TV<\/strong> caught up with some of the vendors in the city center.<\/p>\n

What is «Schedia»<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

«Schedia» is the only Greek street magazine dedicated to helping the homeless and is part of the International Network of Street Papers (INSP), a group which counts 122 similar street magazines in 41 countries, and with 14.000 homeless unemployed vendors and over 6.000.000 readers.<\/p>\n

As with all such street magazines around the world, «Schedia» is not available at the usual retail outlets, such as kiosks, but only on city streets by accredited vendors. The vendors come from vulnerable social groups: the homeless, the unemployed and generally people who are living below the poverty line. From the \u20ac4.00 sale price of the magazine, \u20ac 2.50 (i.e. 62.5%) goes directly to the vendor in the well-known red vest, of which \u20ac1.52 is net income. An amount of \u20ac0.39 is accounted for EFKA (social security), while \u20ac0.59 is withholding tax (20%) and stamp duty (3.6%). Twenty-four cents accounts for the VAT (6%). The remaining \u20ac1.26 is used to meet the organization’s operating needs (with the cost of printing the magazine accounting for the lion’s share), supporting existing ones (such as the «Poverty Goal») and developing new social programs, such as, of course, the «Schedia art». The magazine offers vendors a special opportunity to secure a decent minimum income, but is also a means of release from the vicious circle of social isolation and exclusion. It is also an additional incentive to help people rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n
