This season, after beating <strong>Kifissia<\/strong> in the &laquo;Round of 16&raquo; phase with a final aggregate score of 5-1, <strong>AEK<\/strong> booked the place in the quarter-finals where they face <strong>PAOK <\/strong>once more.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the <strong>Greek Cup<\/strong> is one of the main goals of <strong>Giannikis&#8217;<\/strong> team and <strong>AEK<\/strong> are expected to give everything to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AEK&#8217;s<\/strong> performance in the league can not be considered satisfactory so far. Although they defeated <strong>Apollon<\/strong> 3-0 last time out, before that they had only taken two wins from six games (the wins came against <strong>Lamia<\/strong> and <strong>Atromitos<\/strong>), and suffered four defeats. Overall, after 21 games, <strong>AEK<\/strong> are third in the standings, 14 points behind leaders <strong>Olympiacos<\/strong> and five behind <strong>PAOK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>This season&#8217;s key figures<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Last October, 41-year-old expatriate <strong>Argyris Giannikis<\/strong> took over as head coach, replacing the Serb, <strong>Vladan Milojevic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The major protagonists of the <strong>Union<\/strong> this season are <strong>Sergio Ara\u03bfujo<\/strong>, who returned to <strong>AEK<\/strong> from <strong>Las Palmas<\/strong> and has already scored eight goals, but also <strong>Petros Mantalos,<\/strong> who has registered nine assists.<\/p>\n<p>In the winter transfer market, <strong>AEK<\/strong> proceeded with making one new signing, with 27-year-old <strong>Alexander Fransson<\/strong> being the team&#8217;s only transfer acquisition. The former <strong>Swedish<\/strong> international midfielder, who so far has made eight appearances for his country, signed on a free from <strong>Norrk\u00f6ping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Absentees for the second leg<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In view of the match against <strong>PAOK<\/strong>, the <strong>Greek<\/strong> coach can not count on several key players, such as injured trio <strong>Mantalos,<\/strong> <strong>Vranjes,<\/strong> and <strong>Stankovic<\/strong>.
