{"id":779254,"date":"2024-01-03T22:50:04","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paokfc.gr\/uncategorized-en\/20240103-astamatitos-kai-to-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-01-04T11:50:26","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T09:50:26","slug":"20240103-astamatitos-kai-to-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paokfc.gr\/en\/news\/20240103-astamatitos-kai-to-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"PAOK kick off 2024 in unstoppable form"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was <strong>OFI<\/strong> who initially started well, having had two shots in the first few minutes, but those efforts were hanfled easily by <strong>Kotarski<\/strong>. <strong>PAOK<\/strong> were slow to find their rhythm, but from the 15th minute they seemed to change gears and started to threaten.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Murg<\/strong> fired a warning free-kick shot just wide of <strong>Bowman&#8217;s<\/strong> goal, before <strong>Despodov<\/strong> threatened in the 21st minute after a great team effort, with <strong>Vouros<\/strong> stopping the ball illegally with his hand which resulted in a penalty. <strong>Bowman<\/strong> denied <strong>Schwab<\/strong> from the spot, however, keeping it at 0-0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samatta<\/strong> then missed a good chance with a header in the 25th minute, before the 39th minute brought the breakthrough. <strong>Baba<\/strong> sent over an excellent cross, and <strong>Despodov<\/strong> beat everyone in the air to score and make it 1-0 to the hosts.<\/p>\n<p>Two minutes later the roles were reversed. With a great piece of team play, <strong>PAOK&#8217;s <\/strong>players exchanged a long string of passes before <strong>Despodov<\/strong> squared the ball to <strong>Baba<\/strong> who made it 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>In the 45th minute <strong>Bowman<\/strong> saved a <strong>Despodov <\/strong>shot, while a minute later <strong>Toral<\/strong> fouled <strong>Samatta<\/strong> with a high boot in the face, and match referee <strong>Tsetsilas<\/strong> pointed to the penalty spot. However, once again <strong>Bowman<\/strong> guessed correctly again and saved <strong>Samatta&#8217;s<\/strong> spot-kick, keeping the score at 2- 0 at the end of the first half.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, the pace of the match dropped noticeably, but <strong>PAOK<\/strong> remained in control, albet without creating many clear-cut chances, while <strong>OFI<\/strong> had some efforts on goal that <strong>Kotarski<\/strong> dealt with comfortably. The <strong>Double-headed Eagle<\/strong> then hit the post through <strong>Despodov<\/strong> in the 86th minute after a pass from <strong>Baba<\/strong>, but the <strong>Bulgarian<\/strong> winger didn&#8217;t stop there. In the 89th minute, he served up a ready-made goal to <strong>Marcos Antonio<\/strong>, with the <strong>Brazilian<\/strong> scoring his first goal in a black and white shirt.
