«Good football and results»

Miguel Vítor spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the encounter against AEL Kalloni (Sunday 20 March, 17:15). Read what he said about the matches in Agrinio and Komotini, the new coach, what the team need to do until the end of the season and about his future in Toumba.

19.03.2016

On his injury:

«I had some pains because of the heavy pitch we played on last Saturday. I had to stop training for three days, but I joined the sessions normally on Thursday and I believe I will be OK on Sunday for the match«.

On what changed and the team played so well in Agrinio:

«I believe that coaching changes also affect the team’s psychological state –it’s normal and that happened to us. We played very well on Saturday, it was a good performance. Now our coach has had more days to work with us, convey his philosophy and try out the new system. We used to play with three central defenders, now we moved to a defense of four. We have to adapt to his mentality and bring what he asks of us out on the pitch. We want to play good football and get the desired results. We need victories and that is what we will be after in the final four games of regular season«.

On whether they have been unfair with themselves and if they are still affected by last season:

«Our display against Panthrakikos was the worst of the season. We are exclusively responsible, such matches are not about the coach. We played very poorly and I believe that we have realized that now, that we need to give more in order to help the team. On Saturday in Agrinio we showed what we are capable of and what we can achieve when playing well. Of course we want to win the last four games and get the best possible ranking when the play-offs start, because there is also the issue of point deduction. We may be a bit far from AEK Athens right now, but things will be different in the play-offs and we can turn the situation around. We want to do well and avoid the situation we lived last season. We want to work well in preseason and not have just 15 days of rest in the summer before resuming trainings. That’s why we will perform well in the play-offs and target first place«.

On the two assists he provided in the Panetolikos game:

«I have never given two assists in the same game in my career. I am trying to pass the ball as best as I can to my teammates in every match. It’s not something special that the new coach told me to do. We played well collectively and that is what led to the assists. I am happy I helped my team«.

On his future:

«Since the talks we held with PAOK on October, I haven’t received another offer. I don’t know what to make of it, if they want me or not. I want to finish this season on a high and then I will deal with my future«.

On whether we want to stay at PAOK:

«Yes, I want to stay. I feel very well at PAOK and in Thessaloniki. But I am one party of the deal. Both parties are needed to extend a contract and, after all, it’s not just my decision if I will stay or not«.

On the encounter against AEL Kalloni:

«If we fire on all cylinders, it’s certain that we can win all the games. We know that AEL Kalloni are in a tough spot and will give it all in Toumba. We should run, make an effort and be more focused than them. But, if we bring our quality in the game, we can defeat any rival«.
