«We can do better»

Here is what Vladan Ivić said during his press conference, after the final whistle of PAOK’s encounter against Platanias at Chania for matchday 30 of the Super League.

17.04.2016

On the encounter against Platanias:

«Our plan was to win this match. We were thinking about the play-offs. We got what we wanted, regardless of winning or drawing today. We had several chances but Platanias also could have scored«.

On his team’s display:

«As I said in the beginning, I want our team to have a winning attitude in all matches. When victory is not in the cards, it’s important not to lose. In several matches, I have been satisfied with our correct tactics, discipline, organization and the fact that our opponents enjoyed very few opportunities to score«.

On the team’s performances in recent matches:

«In the last encounters, we were minding our point tally. When we lost to Panionios, we weren’t bad. But overall I believe that we can do better«.

On the injured players:

«Several players were returning to action after injuries, like Rodrigues, Glykos, Chatziisaias, Cimirot, as well as Mak who had been suspended and came back last week. All these absences were messing with our creativity on the pitch. After so much time on the sidelines, the players may need some time to regain their pace. We were aware of that and we tried to cover some voids in the team. I am very satisfied with those who played, as they proved to me that I can count on them«.

On the play-offs:

«The standings are a mess with so many cases pending. Nobody knows if some teams have points, who will enter as fifth… But we are accustomed to this situation. All teams are strong and we are gearing up for six very tough encounters. Much will depend on the draw and on the first match. Right now however, I am more concerned about welcoming several players back to action. We have two weeks ahead to work and try to do something good, all of us together«.

On whether the team can handle six games in two weeks:

«I believe they can, because there are many good players who can come in at any time and make the most of their time on the pitch. They have proved that time and time again and I am optimistic«.
