«Aiming for top spot»

After the final whistle of the encounter against Panionios, Stefanos Athanasiadis collected his Vodafone MVP award and spoke about the game, the remaining play-off matches and the 101 goals he has scored for PAOK.

26.05.2016

On his 101 goals for PAOK:

«It is very important, having scored 101 times for PAOK. It was a dream of mine when I was a child. Hopefully there will be more to come. I don’t think I would trade that with anything. Perhaps with a league title for the ‘Double-Headed Eagle’…»

On which goal he considers more important:

«Lots of goals, many important ones. I guess that the one against Olympiacos that qualified us to the Greek Cup final stands out«.

On the team’s change in the end of the season:

«A new coach is here and it’s important that he knows PAOK mentality and the play-offs. He conveyed some things to the team, we players responded and play well«.

On the remaining play-off games:

«We know what each match means. We are confident about our work and very focused in the games. It hurts us to be playing behind closed doors though, but hopefully our fans will be there for the last match. I hope that everything will turn out fine and we will clinch top spot«.

On the other game of matchday 4:

«We are not interested in what the other teams do. Our focus is to win and qualify for the Champions League«.

On the element of fatigue:

«We didn’t do well during the season, but it’s been almost a year of non-stop work. We are tired, mentally above all, it’s been too many months. There are a few days left, two games, we need to give it all and celebrate top spot«.
