«A league of more quality and competitiveness»

Vladan Ivić spoke to Novasports TV just before the Super League kick-off and shared his thoughts on the new challenge for the “Double-Headed Eagle”.

09.09.2016

On what he is expecting from this season’s league:

«I expect a more interesting league, of more quality and competitiveness. I think everybody expects the same«.

On labeling PAOK as one of the favourites:

«I can’t say that there is one team standing apart. Of course, as in all leagues, some teams have a slight advantage. There are 4-5 teams aiming high each season, but I can definitely say that this league will be more competitive than the previous ones«.

On what each team aims for:

«In previous seasons, some teams would aim high, but content themselves finishing second or below, as Olympiacos would cruise to the league title. I believe that the league will be more competitive this season. Some teams will make an effort to remain in the league, some will aim for the play-offs, contributing to more excitement«.

On PAOK’s objectives in this season’s Super League:

«Our goal is to fight to win every match. I told my players that we must play to win every encounter regardless of the opponent«.

On whether the team’s philosophy has changed since last season:

«There are new faces. We brought several good players and we had the time to prepare for the season. I believe we have gone up a level and that remains to be proven on the pitch«.

On what style of football PAOK fans should expect of their team this season:

«PAOK will aim to win every match. I can safely say that. We will try to do more than last season, so that we will be satisfied with our performance. Of course, it’s very important to be able to satisfy our fans with our displays«.

On whether he has changed his way of thinking after his first months at the helm of the “Double-Headed Eagle”:

«Lots of things have changed. There is a difference between coaching the U20s and the senior team. I have more responsibilities now, but that is part of the job I chose. I always assume my responsibilities and I ask the same of my players«.

On his wish for the new league:

«I wish it will be more competitive and have higher quality. I hope to see more teams being able to challenge the big guns. Furthermore, regarding my team, I want them better than last season and improving from game to game«.

On Panetolikos:

«Panetolikos have a steady presence in the Super League. They have a quality roster and an experienced coach who knows Greek football very well. I believe that they will try to make it difficult for us. They have good players, we know them as they haven’t changed very much since last season. Opening matches are always hard for everyone. I hope we will have a positive start«.
