Shakhov gets “drilled” by fans

Yevhen Shakhov replied to the fans’ questions through the official website of Super League. You can read the entertaining interview of the Ukrainian player on paokfc.gr:

06.03.2017

What was the aim you set as a team in the beginning of the season?

«To go as far as possible in every competition we participate in. That should always be the objective for a big club like PAOK. We knew that we were practically a new squad, with many newcomers –myself included- who would need an adjustment period. But we always aim for the best«.

Question by Nikos Ragatsis:

How do you assess your trajectory as PAOK player and what do you expect of the fans?

«I am very happy at PAOK and I believe I made the right decision last summer. I want to help my team and, every time I step on the pitch, I give it my best in order to win. I believe we will see even better things in the future«.

«Our only “demand” regarding our fans is that they stand by us through thick and thin. We have no complaints. We know they are demanding, but so are we of ourselves«.

Question by Manolis Mandaras:

With which of your team-mates do you hang out more?

«Because of the language, it’s easier to communicate with Léo Matos, as we played together at Dnipro as well and know each other well. But we are all like a family in the dressing room. We kid around, we talk and stand by each other«.

Question by Vasilis Katsaros:

Which one of your team-mates works harder in trainings?

«It would be unfair for the rest to single just one out! All guys are working hard in order to be ready every time we step on the pitch«.

Question by Stavros Vargemezis:

What is your favourite moment in a PAOK shirt?

«The goal I scored against Olympiacos is definitely a special moment. It’s great to play in packed Toumba in such an encounter, let alone score! Our away victory over Fiorentina was also special, but nothing can top the Toumba feeling«.

Question by Panagiotis Konstantinidis:

Do you believe that PAOK can win the Greek Cup?

«This is our biggest objective and we will give it everything to achieve it. We want to achieve something big for PAOK and a title is always special –it’s been many years since the club celebrated the Greek Cup. In football nothing guarantees success of course. The top four teams of the country have made it to the semi-finals and each one have the potential to win it«.

Question by Alexandros Dimitriadis:

You played at Dnipro for more than a decade. How difficult was your adjustment in the Greek League and at PAOK? Is it easy for a player to change scenery after such a long time?

«No, it’s not easy. In modern football, transfers are a very common phenomenon, but changes are always difficult. Especially in my case, as it was the first time in my career that I left Ukraine«.

«I had to adjust to new surroundings and a new football style. The game in Greece is more physical, with more duels especially in midfield«.

«I feel lucky, because everyone at PAOK welcomed me in the best possible way. The club works very professionally and provides everything to the players«.

Question by Vasilis Xirokostas:

How happy are you with your transfer at PAOK?

«Very much. As stated before, I think I made the best career decision. I feel great at PAOK. We have a very good team and we can achieve much. PAOK also helped me make my debut for the national team of Ukraine«.

Question by Ilias Kyrginas:

What is your opinion about the atmosphere in Greek stadia? Can you point out differences between Greek and Ukrainian fans?

«Greeks are more passionate about football. The atmosphere is hotter here. Fans participate in the game, they experience it on the edge. I like that a lot. We also enjoy it more, because football without fans is no football, come to think about it«.

Question by Leonidas Serepas:

How is life at Thessaloniki?

«Thessaloniki is a very beautiful city. The climate is very good –especially after being accustomed to colder climates- and people are very friendly. They all welcomed me in the best possible way. Life in Thessaloniki is one of the reasons I feel nice at PAOK. It’s important for a player to feel well out of the pitch as well«.
