One week later than was expected, due to Covid-19, PAOK and Panetolikos will cross swords in Thessaloniki on Matchday 16 of the 2021-22 Super League Interwetten.

The match between the two teams was scheduled for January 5th, but it was postponed as the Agrinio club had a plethora of positive cases, as did PAOK.

Panetolikos have not yet played a game in 2022 – like PAOK – but they had ended 2021 in an ideal way.

The Agrinians qualified for the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup thanks to two victories over Niki Volos, while in the league they also returned to winning ways, prevailing 2-1 over Atromitos.

It is commonly accepted that Panaitolikos are playing good football this season with coach Yannis Anastasiou at the helm, but they have not managed to get the results they need yet to climb into the top half of the standings. They are currently in 10th place with 15 points from 15 matches.

The quality of the squad is a given, with Vrgoc, Karelis, Flores and Duarte being the players who have stood out so far.

Panetolikos have entered the January transfer window in dynamic fashion, having already completed two transfers.

More specifically, Giannis Anestis, the former Panionios, AEK, Hapoel Beer Sheva and Gothenburg goalkeeper, and Johan Martenson (who has played for Erebro, Utrecht and Helsingborg, among others) have become residents of Agrinio.

Panetolikos have arrived in Thessaloniki without announcing their squad in detail, but Liavas and Varone are two players are will definitely not play as they have been sidelined for some time.
