«Getting through was very important»
Here is what Igor Tudor said after the final whistle of the encounter against FC Spartak Trnava in Slovakia.
On whether he considers Skondras’s attitude as a sign of indiscipline:
«I don’t agree. Several things can happen in a game. I don’t know what happened today and he was sent off, but my players reacted normally, as any team wanting to win. I was very happy to see two players featuring in the flanks combine and create the goal, just as we have worked in trainings».
On whether there is more to gain from this qualification:
«We are expecting new players to join us. We need to work hard in the remaining two weeks and rectify our players’ nerves when in possession and when pressured. But I also saw good things, for example the guys obeying my instructions».
On what made him happy and what disappointed him in the game:
«I was disappointed to see my players lacking self-confidence when under pressure. Getting through was the most important. We proved that we were better than our rivals and deserved to qualify…».
On the team’s much needed boost in the centre forward position:
«It’s important to carve out chances by playing correctly and we have been doing that. I can’t blame Róbert Mak for tonight, it’s the same player who scored in previous encounters. A coach’s job is to make his players create chances, then it’s up to their quality and timing».
Whether qualification to the UEFA Europa League group stage is one of the season’s goals:
«Of course it’s one of our goals, but in order to be competitive we need 14-15 first-string players. Otherwise it would be better not to have a match every three-four days».
On the number of signings that the team need:
«I could speak my mind in public, but I’d rather discuss it with the adequate person, our Sports Director. He is working hard and we are expecting our new players. I will tell him that number in private».
On his preferred rival for the play-offs:
«I would pick a team that we could eliminate».
