Happy birthday, Stelios!

PAOK FC wish all the best to Stelios Kitsiou on a professional and personal level, as he celebrates his 22 birthday on Monday.

28.09.2015

Stelios Kitsiou was born on 28 September 1993 in Menemeni, Thessaloniki. In 2007 he joined the youth system of PAOK and became an important member of the U17 and U20 squads, before signing his first professional contract with PAOK, in early 2012.

During the 2012-13 season, he made his debut for PAOK’s senior squad and got to play in some matches, but not as many as he would have hoped for. However he made it to the deciding play-offs and was introduced at the right side of the defence (filling the void of injured Dimitris Konstantinidis. His performances and his personality became his calling card, as Huub Stevens was checking out his upgraded roster for 2013-14.

In the preseason, he snatched the opportunity and Stevens rewarded him, making him the starting right full-back for season 2013-14. His performances became the talk of the town, fussing about the right back of the next decade. He was a vital cog of the team and conjured up 2 goals in 46 appearances, all competitions included.

Last season he saw his playing time reduced under Angelos Anastasiadis. But at the end, under Giorgos Georgiadis, he raised his game and was among the very few who were salvaged from the play-offs debacle. He finished the season with 30 games and 2 assists under his name.

This season he has stormed out of the blocks for a sensational start. He has featured in seven matches and has impressed with his substantial game and unparallel passion displayed in every encounter.

In early September, he was called to the Greece national team and earned his first senior cap on 7 September 2015 against Romania in Bucharest.
