«Victory is a one-way street»
Nikos Melissas spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the encounter against PAS Giannina corresponding to matchday 17 of the Super League. Here is what the “Double-Headed Eagle” goalkeeper said:
On his thoughts on 2016:
«They are not the best. We started with a defeat and our team didn’t look well. We need to leave this result behind us, starting on Sunday, to change things around, look ahead and clinch qualificiation in the next Greek Cup stage».
On the encounter against AEL Kalloni:
«We are disappointed by our collective and individual performances. We shouldn’t linger on that match however. We need to remedy our errors through training and then help each other on the pitch to improve our displays».
On whether he believes that the team makes no progress:
«I disagree. I believe that things are constantly changing and we are trying to improve. We try to create goalscoring opportunities and defend well. Sometimes however bad luck can be a factor. In our last game, we dominated ball possession but couldn’t become dangerous. High winds were a problem for us, depriving us of the game we wanted to play. We lacked imagination and didn’t take risks».
On whether there is a lesson to be learned from all this:
«All matches can be quite instructive, regardless of the result. Starting on Sunday, we need to improve. One can tell a good player by how fast he bounces back from an unfortunate result».
On his reasons for optimism:
«We are a young team with numerous new players who are eager to improve the team’s image. I am confident that we will achieve that».
On the encounter against PAS Giannina:
«The Greek league is a bit weird. All teams are competitive and give it 200% especially in Toumba Stadium. We need to be ourselves and dominate the encounter. Victory is a one-way street for us».
