Olympiacos – PAOK: Mixed zone

Mak, Tziolis and Tzavellas spoke in the mixed zone of Karaiskakis, after the encounter between Olympiacos and PAOK.

07.02.2016

Róbert Mak spoke about the team’s inability to create goal opportunities while criticizing Greek football as well:

«In my opinion, it was an even match. Olympiacos started better, dominated in the initial minutes, but we were better and in control in the second half. We failed to enter their box and that was our error. Such matches usually end in goalless draw, but Olympiacos scored and won. I have been in Greece for two years now and have adapted to this reality, we are all aware of it. On two-three occasions, we were on-side but the assistant referee waved his flag. We might have achieved something there. We know that Olympiacos always play like that and, if this goes on, they will win all leagues. We are football players, it’s not about us. It’s about Greek football and those in charge should look into it. We have proven that we can face any team. Today we dominated big part of the game. We leave this match behind us. Now we need to focus on a very important Greek Cup match as we aim for the final«.

Alexandros Tziolis spoke about an unfair result for the “Double-Headed Eagle” and their fine performance that didn’t leave room for Olympiacos to create chances.
«It was a bad-quality match. Without chances, without anything special to remember. Our errors enabled Olympiacos to score. We leveled the match, were in possession. It was a bad match and it should have ended in a draw, in my opinion. We didn’t deserve to lose, but did… Despite being in control and displaying good elements, we failed to perform well in their box. We didn’t create chances to score, weren’t dangerous –nor our rivals were. This match will soon be forgotten. It is very disappointing to have so many players on the injury list. Against Olympiacos and in all high-profile encounters, it’s always important to have all players fit. I have already forgotten about this game. There is a very important match coming up on Thursday. This was a bad match, we lost it, we go on… We have no stress in defence. In the last 3-4 games, we only allow our rivals one chance and they score. It’s rather bad luck, not defensive stress. Conceding just one chance in 90 minutes shouldn’t make us sad. It’s a proof of correct defensive behaviour. If bad luck allows our rivals to score, that will soon pass. It would be a problem, if we allowed them to create many chances in our box. But that is not the case. Set pieces in particular are all about focus. If we concede goals in dead-ball situations, then we need to work on our self-concentration. We can talk about a lot of things after matches. We passed the ball around fine, we wanted to create one-two opportunities, but were unable to due to other factors. There is much talk about pressure. When playing for a big club, that is part of a player’s daily life and they should be able to handle it. That happens when the team are not doing well. Getting out of the rough patch is the most important of all » .

As for Giorgos Tzavellas, he didn’t hold back and spoke regarding what is said about him and how fans treat him:

«People can say whatever they want, I am grown used to it by now. I came here today to play football and under no circumstances did I react badly. I respected the game and the rival. I won’t talk about refereeing. Because I know that, no matter what I say, tomorrow morning everyone will be talking about the bad boy, the scamp, the player who provokes. I tried to help the team and I am really sorry I left them with 10 players on the pitch. I repeat that I came here, I played football, I didn’t engage in unsporting behaviour, I didn’t hit any player. Olympiacos’s footballer gained my second booking very smartly, I have nothing more to add. I told you, whatever I say, tomorrow morning I will be the bad person for everyone. I will be in a bad shape, I will be upset, but nobody knows that. I can’t be well when my team lose. Ever since the beginning of the season, I admitted that I went off course sometimes, but I tried to work on it. I try to play for my team, I cannot say anything more. I know what I will read on the papers tomorrow when I wake up. We need to be better and improve. We are going through a rough patch. There were cameras on the pitch. I can only say that he earned that second card very smartly, well done«.
