«Aiming for top spot with our fans»
Giorgos Tzavellas spoke about his sending off, but also said that he trusts in his teammates sealing the deal on Tuesday and celebrating top spot. Here is what the Greek international defender said:
«Such plays can happen during a match. It’s a matter of seconds actually. Mantalos produced a great through-ball, I had my hands stretched out, I brought Pekhart down and was rightfully sent off by Kominis. Our team has a strong character, follow our coach’s advice and that comes out on the pitch. There is definitely fatigue, but we work well, we have high morale and that is evident.
Good defending comes from overall solid performances. We had a hard time throughout the season and we didn’t deserve it. We didn’t deserve all the injuries and the tension around the team. That’s changed lately and we have cooled down. Our coach lifted tension off the dressing rooms and our calmness is evident on the pitch.
We now approach the final game of the season and aim for top spot. We will have our fans on our side. With their help and our high morale, we will aim for victory over Panathinaikos.
We tried to impose our game from the start in the Olympic Stadium and we were very good up until my red card. Luckily AEK Athens also were reduced to ten and the match continued on equal terms. I want to thank my teammates for their effort. There are 90 minutes left and we will achieve our goal with the support of our fans. We can do it”.
