Toumba Stadium drew down the curtain on season 2015-16 with a unique and special Super Cup match between two teams who are united in criticism but from a different point of view. PAOK fans prevailed comfortably over PAOK reporters
Both teams were aiming for victory. After a light warm-up –very light, so that the players wouldn’t drop down from fatigue- the referee signalled kick-off.
Those who were expecting a derby were disappointed. PAOK fans dominated proceedings from minute one and went for a quick opener. They achieved it in the 2nd minute with Apostolos Anastasiou beating the offside trap and scoring his team’s first goal with a cool finish. In the 13th minute, Nikolaos Papatheodorou caught the rival defence napping and made it 2-0.
Ten minutes later, Spyros Keskinidis added his name on the scorers’ sheet with a close-range shot, while Papatheodorou scored again during injury time of the first half.
Right after the interval, Anastasiou scored yet another goal as the reporters failed to clear the ball. The fans kept their foot on the throttle and extended their lead further with Papatheodorou completing his hat-trick. In the 46th minute Dimitris Margaritis’s flawless control and clinical finish made it 7-0 and, two minutes later, Vasilis Kagias sealed the fans’ 8-0 victory. In the 50th minute, Maria Kaltsidi –the only woman participating in the encounter- had a shot on woodwork as she went for the reporters’ consolation goal.
All participants got medals and certificates, that will always remind them of a unique and thrilling experience in Toumba Stadium.
