PAOK – AFC Ajax: Mixed zone

Their long faces spoke volumes about their disappointment. Tzavellas, Leovac and Rodrigues replied to the questions posed by media representatives in the mixed zone of Toumba Stadium.

04.08.2016

Giorgos Tzavellas pointed out the positive aspects of PAOK in the games against AFC Ajax that will serve them in the future. But he couldn’t hide his disappointment:

«We put on a great effort and we are hugely disappointed now. It’s a shame… Too bad for the fans, the president, us, the city and for Greece as well. It’s tough. We must bounce back. We gain maturity through such big matches. We have to continue on our path and hopefully the fans won’t be disappointed and will continue to support us. There is a decent effort being made by the team. We hold on to our performance in the Netherlands and some elements from tonight’s game that will prove useful in the future«.

Μarin Leovac spoke about the penalty call and also referred to the opportunities that PAOK created but failed to convert:

«The referee could award the penalty. It was my error. That goal came at a very bad time. Had we held our lead at half-time, everything would have been different. It was my error and I beg forgiveness of the fans and the team. We should have converted our chances. With so many opportunities wasted, what can I say? It’s too bad that we didn’t qualify«.

Garry Rodrigues spoke of an important opportunity gone to waste and insisted that AFC Ajax had luck on their side:

«We lost a very important encounter. We are all upset. Such things happen in football. I can’t talk about the wasted chances. We shouldn’t linger on that. I agree that AFC Ajax managed to win a game despite their mediocre performance. Luck is essential and tonight it was on Ajax’s side«.
