Yefet appointed for Thursday’s match in Baku
Israeli referee Alon Yefet will take charge of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League matchday 3 encounter between Qarabağ FK and PAOK in Azerbaijan.
Born on 1 September 1972 in Netanya, Israel, he is a marketing professional. He started his refereeing career in the domestic leagues during the ‘90s and earned his FIFA badge in 2001. He then began officiating European club encounters and national sides’ matches.
He is the first Israeli ever to be assigned a UEFA Champions League group stage encounter. He has handled numerous Euro and FIFA World Cup qualifying games and lately he has been refereeing UEFA Europa League group stage encounters.
It’s not the first time that he crosses paths with PAOK. He officiated their UEFA Cup game against Debreceni VSC in Hungary. It ended in goalless draw and the “Double-Headed Eagle” were eliminated.
Yefet has visited Thessaloniki twice in the past in his capacity as referee. He took charge of the encounters Aris – FC Zimbru Chișinău, Aris – AS Roma, FC Bayern München – Aris, Atromitos – Newcastle United FC, AEK – FC BATE Borisov and recently he was appointed at AEK’s match against AS Saint-Étienne for the UEFA Europa League 3rd qualifying round. That is his last European assignment before Thursday’s clash in Baku.
The 44-year-old will be accompanied in Azerbaijan by Danny Krasikow and Nissan Davidy, the assistant referees, with Kiril Balikin acting as fourth official. Ziv Adler and Roi Reinshreiber complete the team as additional assistant referees.
