«Focus and continuity»

Vladan Ivić spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the encounter against Atromitos and paokfc.gr brings you the content of his interview.

On the importance of PAOK’s victory in Florence:

«It’s of huge importance as we prevailed over one of Serie A’s strongest teams. We were the first to beat them at home this season. We were determined and focused from minute one and tried to avoid the errors we made in our previous two European encounters. In football, luck can always be a factor and on Thursday we had it on our side. We had 2-3 great chances to score, but our rivals were better than us in possession and organized game. I believe we had a solid game, were very focused and managed to break into counterattacks rapidly, taking advantage of spaces left open by Fiorentina«.

How will the team maintain continuity in their performances:

«I always have my mind on that, as continuity is football’s most important aspect. Play goes on after victories and defeats alike. We have to get quickly into mode for the next game. That is what we will do now. We all realize that the encounter against Atromitos is of huge importance to us. We need good results in the league as well. We will try to climb the standings and reach the position we deserve«.

How easy is for the team to adjust to Greek reality after the victory in Italy:

«With matches scheduled so close together, there is no luxury of dwelling on the previous encounter. We have realized that as we have played back-to-back games since the start of the season. Our hope is to continue on the same pace, have a full schedule and not have time to think about past games. Continuity marks a team’s trajectory and we are all preparing for our upcoming match«.

On the characteristics that his team brought out on the pitch against ACF Fiorentina and that he would like to see more frequently:

«Focus. We should be focused in every game, every minute. On Thursday we excelled in keeping our focus from kick-off until the final second. We should be like that in every game. We have had this characteristic in most matches so far, regardless of the result. My team’s positive side is that they fight to win until the end, just as they did in “Artemio Franchi”. Sometimes we don’t get the result we want. But this is a team who know what they are after and we will continue on the same course«.

On the need to defeat FC Slovan Liberec in Toumba Stadium:

«First of all, let me point out that we might win and get eliminated, or we might draw and progress to the next stage. However, until then, there are several games we need to focus on. Europe can wait«.

On the injured players and their return to action:

«I am getting good news by the medical staff. They are all on the process of reintegration and hopefully they will be ready on Monday».

On Atromitos:

«They are a fine, organized team. I know their coach well, as I faced him when I was at PAOK U20s. In recent games they gained good results and they know what they are after on the pitch. We need to react and return to our winning ways after suffering that defeat in Nea Smyrni«.
