PAOK couldn’t get any points out of their 62nd visit to Panathinaikos’s home ground, although a draw seemed the most deserving result in a less than mediocre match.

The two sides engaged in recon football at the start of the encounter and then PAOK gradually improved their performance and leveled possession. They recorded their first attempt on goal in the 17th minute, with a powerful shot by Leovac, saved by Vlachodimos. The first half was mainly an affair of midfield duels. Panathinaikos became dangerous in the 42nd minute, with a header by Coulibaly.

After the interval, the home side started pressuring more, but to no avail. Cañas unleashed a powerful shot in the 57th minute that flew over Vlachodimos’s crossbar. Four minutes later Matos’s header following a corner kick by Rodrigues also went wide.

Panathinaikos broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, with a long-range shot by Lod, in a play that initially didn’t spell danger for PAOK’s box.

PAOK went close in the 82nd minute with a header of Athanasiadis who had just come off the bench. But the “Two-Headed Eagle” weren’t efficient and couldn’t turn the situation around.
