«We paid for our bad moments»

Everything that PAOK coach Vladan Ivić said, after his side lost to AEK Athens for matchday 24 of the Super League:

12.03.2017

On his team’s performance:

«All three goals derived from our mistakes. Suffering a goal so early in the match messed with our plans and morale. We created chances to score in the first half, AEK had some as well just before the interval. But we couldn’t make the most of the opportunities we got. We were then reduced to 10 players for Malezas’s handfoul. I believe we played well while in numerical inferiority. By “well”, I mean we weren’t so much under pressure. But fatigue kicked in towards the end and we gifted AEK two goals. Game over«.

On PAOK’s latest displays:

«We had some mediocre games, but that’s football. You can’t always perform well and win. We play to win every match and aim for those three points. Sometimes we suffer complications, but we need to remedy our errors. Whatever AEK did today, they were able to pull it off through our mistakes. We created plays through combination football, set up some opportunities, controlled much of the encounter, but sometimes that’s not enough. We had some bad moments and ended up paying the price«.

On the deciding moments of the OAKA match:

«We had some good opportunities in the first half. Had we scored, or had Malezas not been sent off, it would have been a different game altogether. We suffered our setbacks at crucial points of the encounter. As I said before, despite being reduced to 10, we weren’t in difficulty, apart from one lost ball in midfield. It was obvious who was in control, who plays football. We made mistakes, but I wouldn’t say we were inferior to our rivals. That happens… It’s the first time this season that we concede such an early goal. We definitely must make sure not to let that happen again«.

On Cañas:

«He could have helped today, but he just returned from his injury. He is well now, I was planning on using him, but we conceded very early and our plans changed. In the second half, we were reduced to 10 and trailing, therefore we needed an attacking boost«.

On PAOK’s bad start to the game:

«Everything is part of the game. When a match kicks off, nobody knows what can happen. Unfortunately we were treated to a bad start, we also suffered Campos’s forced substitution. That’s not easy, but it’s part of our work and we need to react and do our best«.
