The culmination of a four-year successful journey – U15 aim for the title
They are still very young but already boast rich experience. They are looking forward for yet another final, aiming to win the Super League U15 title. PAOK face Olympiacos for a fourth consecutive season in the final to be held on Saturday 29 April, at 16:45 in AEL FC Arena of Larissa.
PAOK U15 side, the generation of 2002, boast impressive performances and trophies in European tournaments. For a four-year period, they were undefeated in domestic and international matches. That streak came to an end last Easter, in the tournament “We Love Football” of Bologna. The troops of Angelos Zazopoulos however are focusing now on their next aim, the Super League final. Although the main objective is for these 15-year olds to enjoy an exciting game, it’s nevertheless a clash between PAOK and Olympiacos…
Since the first edition of the Super League U15 final, in 2013-14, PAOK and Olympiacos have contested all the trophy matches (in Agrinio, Chania, Ioannina and now in Larissa). Olympiacos have celebrated twice, while PAOK won in Crete, in 2014-15.
In 18 encounters for Group B of the league, PAOK recorded 17 victories and suffered just one defeat, by Xanthi. They scored 62 goals and conceded only 10. They wrapped up their season with a tally of 51 points, having mathematically secured their presence in the final since matchday 8.
Olympiacos topped Group A with 46 points in 20 matches, four more than second-placed Atromitos.
PAOK have many “weapons” in attack, as their scoring charts reveal: Altintzis and Gortegiani have netted eight goals and Tselios has six goals to his name. The list also includes Grosdis, Sapountzis, Saregos (5 goals each), Theodoridis, Τsopouroglou, Κaramperis, Aventisian (4 each), Panagiotou (3) and Kaltsidis, Grigoriadis, Temertzoglou (2 goals each).
Grosdis and Altintzis have 6 assists each to their name. They are followed by Sapountzis (5), Aventisian (4) and Tsopouroglou (3).
Grosdis tops the list of most minutes played in the season (1.258 in 16 matches). The list also includes Panagiotou (1.250 minutes in 18 matches), Karamperis (1.223 minutes in 16 matches), Aventisian (1.216 minutes in 17 matches), Kaltsidis (1.135 minutes in 17 matches) and Sapountzis (1.056 minutes in 18 matches).
PAOK U15 side for 2016-17 consists of: Konstantinos Balomenos, Dimosthenis Μakris, Giorgos Lagonidis, Isaak Kiourtsidis, Thodoros Kaltsidis, Thodoros Pyrtsios, Konstantinos Grigoriadis, Aventis Aventisian, Giorgos Kalaitzis, Vasilis Grosdis, Panagiotis Panagiotou, Thomas Karamperis, Anastasios Sapountzis, Anastasios Temertzoglou, Anastasios-Andreas Tselios, Dimitris Tsopouroglou, Efthymios Theodoridis, Giannis Saregos, Vasilis Altintzis, Vasilis Gortegiani, Mateo Kushta.
Angelos Zazopoulos is the head coach of the squad, assisted by Angelos Papanikolaou and Κonstantinos Kazanas. Giorgos Skiathitis is the goalkeeping coach.
- PAOK will leave for Larissa on Friday morning. Later in the day, they will train in AEL FC Arena, the final venue.
- It’s an 80-minute encounter and, in case of a tie in regulation time, the winner will be determined via penalty shoot-out, not extra time.
