# The first time that the two sides faced each other in a two-legged semi-final was back in 1981-82. Panathinaikos lost 1-0 in Toumba Stadium, but turned the tie around, winning 2-0 in Leoforos. In 1984-85, PAOK were defeated 2-0 in Athens, but an impressive 4-0 in their home ground sent them to the final.

In regulation time, the Greens took a 2-1 lead, canceling out PAOK’s 2-1 win in Toumba. In 1993-94, the two sides met in the round of 16 and played two goalless draws. The second leg, held in Toumba, saw Panathinaikos prevail 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out.
