Matos, Leovac, Malezas included in the 2016-17 Super League Best Squad
Léo Matos, Marin Leovac and Stelios Malezas were voted as members of the 2016-17 Super League best 23-man squad, in the poll “Novasports Super League Awards”.
Léo Matos

In his first season with the PAOK shirt on, the Brazilian full back proved right from the start that he would be essential to the team. He became a regular and his contribution to PAOK’s campaign was very important.
He played in 27 encounters and spent a total of 2.468 minutes on the pitch. He was flawless in his defensive duties, thanks to his solid positioning and timely interventions. He stood out though for his input in PAOK’s attack. With five goals, two assists and innumerable dribbles on his way forward, he proved quite a handful for rival defenders.
After the results were announced, he said:
«I wish to thank everybody working at PAOK. For example, our kitmen and physiotherapists who work behind the scenes, but their contribution is very important. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to perform to the best of my abilities«.
Marin Leovac

Last season he had a tough time adjusting to roles that wouldn’t suit him. Everything changed when Vladan Ivić took over the reins of the team. He returned to his favourite left full-back position and was able to showcase his talent.
He started the current season with his foot on the throttle and has been firing on all cylinders ever since. He featured in 25 encounters, played a total of 1.955 minutes, scored two crucial goals, served one more and deservedly is considered the best full-back of the Super League.
The Croatian full back couldn’t hide his excitement for winning this accolade:
«Being included in the best team of the league means a lot to me, I am very proud of it. It has been a very tough season so far for us. We achieved our main goal, winning the Greek Cup, and now we head for the business end of the season, the play-offs. We will do our best to top this mini league. On a personal note, I wish to be healthy and play well«.
Stelios Malezas

Experience talking… The oldest player of the “Double-Headed Eagle” was a real defensive tower this season. At the start, he wasn’t included in his coach’s regular picks, but as the season progressed, Stelios Malezas found his role, enjoyed more minutes on the pitch and performed at the highest level.
A leader in the dressing rooms, one of the team’s captains, he played in 22 encounters and a total of 1.473 minutes , was there when PAOK needed him and proved he has still a lot to give.
“Male” sent his own message after being included in the best team of the season:
«I would like to express my gratitude to those who included us in the Super League’s top squad. I am very happy to be part of this team. Being in the company of other PAOK players in this list means a lot«.
