FC Olimpik Donetsk – PAOK: Mixed zone

Pedro Henrique and Róbert Mak spoke to the media after the final whistle of the encounter against the Ukrainian side in Kiev for the UEFA Europa League 3rd qualifying round.

27.07.2017

He came off the bench to score a valuable goal for PAOK. After the match, Pedro Henrique spoke about the first leg against FC Olimpik Donetsk:

It was our first official encounter of the season and we found it difficult to get in pace and dictate proceedings. We need to try more, run more. The 1-1 draw is a fine result, but a victory would have been better for us.

It was a tough goal. I evaded my first opponent, saw there was space available and everything happened quickly afterwards. I fired a low shot and the ball flew under the keeper. It’s not about the goal, but the result.

Training is different, as everything seems easier in theory. However, with the sessions being held at a high pace, the element of fun must be introduced. Today it was a tough day and the match was exhausting. I am keeping the goal and the result that gives us the edge ahead of the second leg.

I am optimistic, because we have quality. We were joined by some very good players, like Mak and Rey. We need the latter a lot, especially with Glykos sidelined. We take it one game at a time and, match by match we will prove we have potential to do better”.

Róbert Mak didn’t combine his return to PAOK with a victory and didn’t look for excuses:

It wasn’t our best game. The first encounter of the season is always tricky. We need to get pace. We will win in Toumba Stadium and secure qualification by playing better.

We scored an important away goal and we must perform better in Toumba Stadium in order to qualify. After conceding the opener, we displayed our fighting spirit.

We have a week ahead to work better and think things through. I am sure we will qualify. It’s not an excuse, but it’s always the same with the first match of the season. We fail to win it and then we turn the situation around in Toumba”.
