PAOK – FC Basel: Backstage

The mood was grim. The devastating fires in Attica that claimed the lives of so many people upstaged football. While everyone focused on the victims and those affected by the catastrophy, the “Double-Headed Eagle” kicked off their season with a victory over FC Basel and have gained a slight advantage in their UEFA Champions League qualifying tie. PAOK TV has all behind-the-stage action.

25.07.2018

The team were treated to a special welcome in the stadium by the PAOK faithful and president Ivan Savvidis, who escorted the bus to the venue and greeted all squad members before the encounter against the Swiss outfit. Then the players took their first stroll on the pitch, Kostas Dimitriou met his former team-mates and both teams started their warm-up routine.

The match was dedicated to those in Attica going through incredible hardship. PAOK FC offered all gate income of Tuesday’s game to the affected people as a first relief measure. Before the encounter, a minute of silence was held in memory of the victims.

Once the action started on the pitch, PAOK were great. Supported by packed, vibrant Toumba, they netted two outstanding goals but were unlucky to concede once unexpectedly. However they have gained the advantage in the tie.

PAOK TV camera attended the encounter and recorded all behind-the-scenes action, compiled now in an entertaining video.
