Chuba Akpom’s life journey

He decided to leave his home country, friends and family and accept PAOK’s offer last summer. The rest is history. A history that has drawn interest by English media.

25.05.2019

From Canning Town to Thessaloniki. From Arsenal to PAOK. Chuba Akpom is now a vital cog of the Greek double winners, an undefeated champion and scorer of the solitary goal in the Greek Cup final of 2019.

His journey as footballer has never been smooth. Loan spells, a place on the bench or the stands, doubt… Even during his first months in Thessaloniki, featuring in the shadow of Aleksandar Prijović, AK47 started doubting his decision to come to Greece.

Everything changed in January. After the Serbian strike left PAOK, the coast was clear for the Englishman to get a spot in the regular line-up and Akpom responded to the challenge in flying colours. Under the guidance of Răzvan Lucescu , he became a mighty weapon for PAOK, contributing in goals and other duties on the pitch.

Akpom found his footballing Ithaca in Thessaloniki, made the most of his opportunities, enjoying now the two titles won.

Back in London, his journey attracted media interest. ITV News decided to record Chuba’s life in a very interesting documentary.

From his childhood in London’s hoods to Arsenal and the other teams who got his loan services, all the way to the “Double-Headed Eagle”. The MVP of the Greek Cup final is presented in the following video.
