This club may also have been established three years ago, but it has already achieved a lot. Volos is one of the most interesting projects in this season’s Super League.

In the summer of 2017, when Pidna Kitrous moved their base from Kitro Pierias to Volos, it renamed itself as the «New Football Club of Volos». Within two seasons, Greek football’s newest club managed to celebrate two successive promotions from the Gama Ethniki and the Football League, and this year is enjoying its maiden season with the country’s elite teams.

During its first season in the top flight so far, the club has gained a lot of attention. They are a team which play attractive and attacking football, with plenty of Spanish influences, and they have achieved some important results and given opportunities to some talented players.

In 20 matches, Volos have collected 22 points and it does not seem like they will be dragged into any relegation battles based on their form. The foundations for achieving their key goal of staying in the top flight have been more or less achieved due to the team’s impressive early-season performances when the Magnesia outfit started very strongly.

With Juan Ferrando at the steering wheel at the start of the season, Volos played excellent football. Unfortunately, just a few days ago, the Spaniard stepped down from his role due to health issues. Alberto Gallego took over and he has kept faith with his predecessor’s philosophy and approach, adding also some other aspects of his own style.

The team’s forward line includes Juan Muniz, Joaquin Torres and Erik Jendrisek, while in the middle and at the back the team has four players from the PAOK Academy. Messers Diamantis, Lyratzis, Tsaousis and Balogiannis are part of the Volos squad on loan, taking their first steps in professional football and they have all made a good impression to date.
