Ingason: «A challenge for everyone»
Ingi Ingason spoke to Novasports to give his insights on the upcoming Super League derby clash against Olympiacos at the Toumba. Read what the Icelandic defender said via paokfc.gr.
On the win over Volos:
«The taste of a victory is always sweet, especially ahead of a derby match like the one we have to play. Unfortunately the new year did not start as we would have liked, but that’s the reality we face. It’s our obligation to treat each game differently. We have a match against Olympiacos and we are focused on getting a positive result.»
On if the players have discovered what their mistakes have been:
«We watched both the matches against Larissa and Atromitos again. We made a huge number of individual mistakes and those cost the team. It’s something that can happen, and we are concentrating on trying to find solutions to that problem, and we know very well that against our next opponent we don’t have the luxury to make these kinds of mistakes. Now, after the win over Volos, I think we find ourselves on the right track.»
On the importance of the players’ psychology for the up0coming derby match:
«Games like these can determine an entire season. Some of the results of previous matches have already cost us, and that is something that adds even more pressure on us for tomorrow’s game. This is something we all know. All we need to do is to show up and play as we should to get the positive result. If we succeed, we will continue to kick on and see what the future holds for us.»
On Olympiacos:
«They are a good side. They have not made mistakes so far in the league. I believe that we are a team that can beat them, and we are a challenge for them. And so we will see on the day of the game. We are not afraid of anyone, we know and they know that we are out to win again.»
On what PAOK need to do to win the game:
«Our concentration levels must be high, and there’s no room for frivolous decisions. It is a match in which for us victory is the only result that we are interested in. They are in a more… comfortable situation than us, that’s why we have to hedge our bets and give it our all. At the end of the game we will see where this can lead us. But the most important thing is to stay calm, to play according to our strengths, and if we do, I think we have a really good chance of winning the match.»
On whether he considers it just a game like any other:
«No, we can not compare this game with any other. It is the derby, a match that you want to win at all costs. You cannot lose… So now is the time for everyone to show their best, and to fight, and if we do we have a good chance of doing that.»
