OFI vs. PAOK: Facts & Figures
Ahead of PAOK’s Super League Interwetten Matchday 17 clash against OFI Crete at the Yedi Kule, paokfc.gr gives you the lowdown on the background to the match, as well as a look back at our previous encounters against the Heraklion club.
- PAOK met OFI six times in the 2019-20 season, more than any other club in all competitions. They met twice in the regular league season, twice in the Play Offs, and twice in the Greek Cup.
- From those games, PAOK recorded five wins, while there was one drawn match – the last match in the Play Offs when it finished 2-2 in Crete. The goal count was 17-4, with Akpom scoring four of those strikes.
- PAOK defeated OFI 3-0 in the first round of the league at the Toumba this season, that win marking the eighth win in the last nine games in matches against OFI irrespective of the venue, with the 2-2 draw in the Play Offs the only game that the Cretans have taken a point from.
- Overall in 87 matches between the two sides, PAOK have won 44, while there have been 20 draws, and OFI have won 23 times.
- There have been 43 matches in Crete, with OFI being the more dominant side, winning 22 times, while there have been 13 draws and 8 wins for PAOK.
- PAOK’s last defeat in Crete was on February 4 2015 by a 3-1 (11′ George, 34′ Lampropoulos, 82′ KOutsianikoulis – 52′ Papadopoulos) scoreline. The PAOK coach then was Angelos Anastasiadis, while Nikos Anastopoulos was in the OFI dugout.
- PAOK’s three successive away wins against OFI are a record for the Double-headed Eagle, who have achieved the feat twice, the second time coming in the Greek Cup, although there was a significant time gap bewtween them. From 2008 to 2012 there were the two wins in the Greek Cup, but OFI’s absence from the top flight for a considerable spell did not give the teams much of a chance to meet each other.
- The first time the two clubs met was in the 1968-69 season, when OFI made it’s debut in the then Αlpha Ethniki. Then, it was was PAOK who claimed A 4-1 (33′, 36′ Koudas, 44′ Aslanidis, 89′ Lazos – 60′ Karakiriakos) win at the Toumba. In Heraklion, the match ended in a 1-1 (75΄Papoutsakis – 89′ Mitrakas) draw.
