Sznaucer: «We know what we must do»
Miroslav Sznaucner shared his thoughts and insights on the upcoming Super League Interwetten Play Offs Matchday 5 local derby clash against Aris at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium to the Novasports cameras. Read what the Pole said on paokfc.gr.
On the benefits gained from the victory in the game with Olympiacos:
«It was a very important game; the derby against Olympiacos is always special for us. We really wanted the win and we showed that; we were very good and the result was fair. We have to forget it now though, we have other games ahead of us. We had one or two days to enjoy it, but the next day you have to focus on the work for the next game.»
On the change in formation, even though the coaching team have also done it before:
«We changed the system, it was something we thought about a lot, because we also knew how Olympiacos were going to play. We chose this and it turned out very well for us. The performance was good and in the defensive part we did not concede chances, we were well organized. It was a game in which we changed things and now we have the choice to play either like this, or in a 4-3-3 system; we have alternatives.»
On the selection of Vieirinha as a third defender:
«First of all, when we build from the back and keep possession, it’s something that brings us calmness. He knows football very well and reads the game, he has a good long and short game, he helps us build the play. And also defensively he is composed, reads the game well, and even though he is not that tall, he is good in the air. I think that Andre fits there and plays comfortably in that position.»
On Baba’s performance in the derby with Olympiakos:
«Game by game we are seeing that Baba’s output just keeps getting better. In the first month and a half he had some difficulties, he needed some time to adjust. We are happy that he is giving us options both offensively and defensively. He is a good player, he works the line well and makes lots of runs. I hope he will keep it up.»
On the local derby with Aris and where the match will be won or lost:
«It will be a difficult game. We have played them twice so far this season but have not won. Our perfornace was good in the first match, which we lost 1-0 with a penalty that I think should not have been given. Our psychology is good after the recent victory, and we know we can beat any opponent if we play with passion and we stick with our plan. Aris are also in good shape so it will be a good match and I hope that we can win it.»
On what PAOK need to be wary of and what qualities the team will need to win:
«We have to be wary of and tackle Aris’ forward line where they have some quality players. So we have to focused on our defensive responsibilities. Aris are a close-knit and compact side, but we are also a good side and I am not afraid of antyhing about this match.»
On the proposed creation of the European Super League:
«It’s not good for football. I think it’s nice to have the regular Champions League, which gives the smaller clubs a chance to play in it. Money does of course play a role in football, but for the smaller clubs it is unfair to have to sit by and watch the other bigger clubs start their own competition and play by themselves.»
