Swiderski: «Concentration will decide the derby»
Karol Swiderski spoke to the Novasports cameras about the Super League Interwetten Matchday 4 derby encounter with AEK Athens. Read what the Polish forward said via paokfc.gr.
On his current fitness and form status:
«I feel good now compared to the start of the season because back then it was difficult on a personal level because I had Covid at the beginning of the pre-season preparations. The summer was not difficult, I trained often, I also had some matches with the Polish national team, but then I rested. When we started pre-season I got coronavirus but I can now play games every 2-3 days, like all the others.»
On playing for Poland:
«It is very important for me that I started in two qualifiers. It was something I didn’t expect it. Not only did I go to the European Championships but I was also important for my country. What we need to do is to improve the results aspect.»
On how he feels playing with players like Lewandowski:
«Of course I feel better having played with the best striker in the world, and this is something that makes you raise your game and value on a football pitch. The last time I went, Lewandowski asked me why the championship has not started in Greece, which I did not expect. I was impressed, I realized that he was looking out for the Greek championship and it is positive for me and for us.»
On what he thinks about the PAOK team this season:
«We did not expect not to win the first game, but beyond that we have three wins with the game in Europe. We know that this current team is new, we have a good coach, and we are well on our way to improving.»
On how different the team is:
«The difference is that we have more young players. Also, last year we played with three defenders and this year our system requires a different type of work, and the new players have to get used to it. We are on a good path and we must continue as we are now in order to win the championship.»
On the return of Akpom and the internal competition that comes as a result:
«I’m happy because I know him, we have a good relationship. In some games he plays, in some I do and it makes sense when we have obligations every three days. From the moment Nelson got ijnured we had to get someone in. Both Akpom and I will score the goals we need to for the team.»
For the first derby against AEK, and the fact that there will be fans present:
«I’m happy that the crowd will be in the stadium to be there with us, and that we will play a derby in front of the crowd. We know exactly what that means. We know that Gate 4 will be closed, but the rest of the stadium will be full and it is very important, because it gives us a boost when we play with our people behind us. It will be the first derby, it will be a difficult game with AEK, and we will have to fight and be fully concentrated at all times to get the victory.»
