PAOK vs. Ionikos: Facts & Figures
Let paokfc.gr set the scene for you ahead of the Super League Interwetten clash against Ionikos at the Toumba. Before the big kick-off, read through some interesting background facts and stats, as well as the history of our previous clashes with the Athens club.
- PAOK’s defeat by Ionikos in the first half of the season was the last time the Double-headed Eagle lost a match. From December 5 2021 and until now there have been 11 league matches from which PAOK have won nine and drawn two. The unbeaten record also is intact in the Greek Cup.
- In total, with Ionikos as the visiting side, there have been 17 matches between the two teams, with PAOK recording 12 victories, three draws and one defeat. The two teams are meeting at the Toumba for the first time in 16 years, since the last time they met in Thessaloniki was in November 2006, with PAOK winning 3-0 courtesy of two goals from Michel (55’, 73’) and one from Iliadis (90’).
- The first match between the two teams was in the 1989-90 season, during Ionikos’ maiden season in the top flight, with PAOK winning in Nikaia and Ionikos earning a 0-0 draw in the return fixture.
- There is not much variety in the results of matches between the two clubs at the Toumba, since PAOK have prevailed four times by a 2-0 scoreline and 3-0, while there have also been two 4-1 wins. There have also been 3-1 and 6-1 wins for PAOK. There have been two goalless draws, and one 1-1 draw. The only win recorded by Ionikos in Thessaloniki was a 2-1 success.
- PAOK players have created a special tradition, since in eight of the 16 matches between the two teams that took place with PAOK as the home team, at least one player has scored two goals in the same match. Stefanos Bamborekis was the first to manage it, while Dimitris Salpingidis did it twice. Even Michel, Fucini, Valencia, Cominches, and Djurjevic did it. Salpingidis is also the top scorer in home matches against Ionikos, since he has scored four goals against the Athens club.
