Aiming high

Last year’s dreams became nightmares. The squad was packed with players who had good resumes, and the club were dreaming of Europe. In the end, the reality turned out to be quite harsh for the Peristeri club, who had a season of struggling at the bottom of the table before saving themselves at the last minute in the finale.

This summer, the goal was to make that suffering a lesson for everyone. A core of the squad was maintained, there were no changes in the technical leadership, the gaps were sufficiently covered, and the pre-season preparation showed that the team is on the right track.

The first proof of all the above was the 3-1 over OFI in the premiere, with the Athenian team having opportunities for even more goals and generally showing a good image on the pitch.

Coleman the man at the wheel

Chris Coleman is the man who brought some calm back to Peristeri. The Welsh coach, familiar with the Greek reality as he had a spells at AEL, managed to transform Atromitos within six months and lead them away from misadventures related to relegation.

He had this summer to build his own team from scratch and now it remains to be seen if he will manage to lead Atromitos into the upper echelons of the standings.

Plenty of departures, and a few good additions

Papadopoulos, Natsos, Thomas, Salomon, Castellano, Rotariu, Daviotis and Spiridonovic left, while Koulouris and Charisis were transferred to LASK and Sivaspor respectively, bringing a significant boost to the team’s coffers.

On the other hand, there were some important arrivals. Danny Suarez and Loren de Bock came in to strengthen the defence, Kuen and Gonzalez the midfield, Gaetan Robail has brought quality and experience on the wing, while Vidar Orn Kjartansson is the player called upon to fill the void in the midfield. So, a squad of high-performing players who offer plenty of options to Coleman, who has also promoted several players from the Under-19 side.
