The dream of returning to trophies did not materialize last season either for Aris, who failed to qualify for the group stage of a European competition, and were knocked out of the Greek Cup by Lamia. They did though manage to finish third in the league, earning a ticket to the 2022-23 UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.

The summer started with dreams and ambitions. The team strengthened with many players with impressive resumes coming in, filled gaps from last year, while also keeping the same coaching staff, and started determined to achieve their goals.

It all started by overcoming minnows Gomel with two wins, but Maccabi Tel Aviv dashed their dreams of qualifying for the group stage again. The start in the league was also not ideal, as despite a 3-0 win against Levadeiakos, Aris suffered a 3-1 defeat in Agrinio against Panetolikos on the second matchday.

With Terzis as inrterim boss against PAOK

As a result of the performances from the first six official games of the season, Herman Burgos was sacked as head coach, one week before the battle with PAOK. Apostolos Terzis will be in the dugout to face the Double-headed Eagle for the third time as the coach of the Yellow and Blacks.

Radical changes

Kamara, Ndiaye, Sasha, Bertoglio, Sundgren, Ganea, Matilla, Gama, Denis, Delizisis, Benalouane, Sakic, Duarde, Alli and Lopez all left the team and nine new players came in their places. Aris acquired players with significant resumes, such as Gervinho, Gray and Manu Garcia, and they strengthened in all areas with Sheikh, Mazikou, Odubajo, Dabo, Piersman and Camacho. What is required now is for the team to acquire chemistry and start to show all of their quality on the pitch.

The squad for the match with PAOK

Terzis will not have the injured Odubajo at his disposal with the squad consisting of the following players:

Cuesta, Brumbec, Iturbe, Manu Garcia, Mateo Garcia, Gervinho, Mancini, Ducouret, Gray, Ciabani, Fabiano, Dabo, Camacho, Embakata, Nkulu, Diop, Palma, Piersman, Mazikou, Sgouros.
