Happy Birthday Diego!
Our midfielder Diego Biseswar turns 35 today, and PAOK FC would like to wish him many years of health, happiness and successes on both a personal and professional level.
Diego Biseswar was born on March 8 1988 in Amsterdam, to parents of Surinam descent. He started playing football at five years of age, when he registered at the amateur club of DWS in 1993. He remained there for a year before being picked up by Ajax’s academy, whom he joined at six years old. He remained at Ajax for five years up to 1999, but found it difficult to adapt his talents to the demands of the coaches at Ajax.
He returned to his first club, DWS and then joined Telstar the next year, before then moving on to Feyenoord in 2001. It was there in Rotterdam where he found his footing, and his more mature, natural talent began to shine through. He signed his first professional contract in 2004 and made his debut in the final match of the season when coach Ruud Gullit brought him on in a 6-3 win over Den Haag.
Biseswar remained with Feyenoord until 2012, and during his time there also had loan spells at Heracles (2006-07 – 26 appearances, two goals) and De Graafschap (2007-08, 12 appearances) before returning as a top, senior player. After that, Sheffield United could not afford to meet Feyenoord’s transfer fee demands, while Biseswar himself rejected overtures from Ajax, while Valencia showed interest in signing him but the Spaniards did not follow through with a firm offer.
Biseswar opted to let his contract run out in the summer of 2012, having made 108 appearances for Feyenoord and scoring 18 goals. The next stop in his career was Kayserispor in Turkey, where he spent four years, making 116 appearances and scoring 18 goals.
He has played in all of Holland’s youth teams, while he has also been called up to the Holland B squad. From the spring of 2021 he choose to represent the Surinam national team, with which he is an active member of the squad to this day.
From the summer of 2016, Biseswar has been a resident of Thessaloniki with PAOK. He has made 242 appearances, scoring 27 goals and contributing 41 assists. He has won three Greek Cups and one Super League title.
