All about rehabilitation
Injuries are a necessary evil of football. Last season, PAOK suffered –literally and figuratively- due to the numerous muscular injuries of the players. That fact created the necessity to take drastic measures towards injury prevention and rehabilitation.
In the 20 days between the end of 2015-16 season and the start of the new one, PAOK were not only looking for new signings, but also for ways to protect their new acquisitions and the players already existing in their roster.
The first step was the extension of Nea Mesimvria installations. A new area of 500 sq.m. has been added and it includes:
- Pool
- Jacuzzi
- Cryotherapy room
- Corridor of water-reflexology
- New, bigger physiotherapy room
- New, bigger gym
FMS tests for the first time
For the first time, as agreed between the medical staff and fitness coach Dimitris Daniilidis, players went through Functional Movement Screening tests in the beginning of preseason. The FMS tests held by Petar Milkanović are the functional control of movement through a series of drills conducted in a specific sequence and graded according to their execution in a special scale.
This procedure allows detecting of diversions from the normal functional movement of the body. In that case, a special program of corrective drills to improve imbalances.

Human resources
PAOK have also boosted their medical and coaching staff. There are six physiotherapists now present in Oosterbeek, instead of the four that attended last season’s main stage. Apart from rehabilitation fitness coach Petar Milkanović, freelance collaborator Nenad Kovacević specializes in injury prevention and recovery. Kovacević has his own rehabilitation centre in Belgrade and he had overseen the recovery progress of Marin Leovac before last season’s play-offs.
Special equipment
With technology advancing rapidly, cange of faces in the medical staff must be boosted by the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment. Therefore PAOK bought three cryotherapy machines that help fatigued leg muscles after tough trainings. This technique has been adopted by top clubs around the world with optimum results.
