Panathinaikos – PAOK: Mixed zone

Here is what the players of the “Double-Headed Eagle” said after the final whistle of their away encounter against Panathinaikos for matchday 23 of the Super League.

21.02.2016

Dimitris Chatziisaias spoke about Panathinaikos’s first goal, his error and the reaction of the team:

«It has a tough encounter. We started slow, conceded an early goal and a second one after the interval, but we didn’t give up. We kept fighting and got a positive result. This comeback means something. Everybody is working hard. We will fix everything and the situation will improve. I made an error in the first goal, but I didn’t yield. I kept fighting, we all did. Congratulations to the team, we could have even scored a winner. All these absences count, but we will give it everything for the team and the club«.

Dimitris Pelkas focused on Tudor’s halftime speech and the team’s character:

«We believed that we could get a result, that’s the most important thing. We didn’t start well, Panathinaikos had their chances and we conceded a goal. We changed things in the second half and we fought. Our coach told us at halftime that nothing was over, we were still trailing 1-0. It was tough conceding a second goal just after the interval. But we bounced back after Cimirot’s goal and could have even won the match as we were better than our rivals. In all three derbies, we conceded goals with the first chance our rivals had. We need to be more focused. It’s a matter of luck scoring only in away matches. I want to score in Toumba as well, I have wasted opportunities and that disappoints me. In football we have to assume our responsibilities and come out stronger, work on a daily basis and improve. Everything must improve and we are the only ones who can achieve that. This continuous fault-finding isn’t nice, but we are responsible for it«.

Nikos Korovesis spoke about the psychological boost that Cimirot’s exquisite goal meant for all players:

«The team reacted despite conceding early. We could have turned the situation around and won. We were lucky to score a great goal through Cimirot and that boosted us. It’s true that we get to pay for even the slightest error we make. Eventually we will improve«.
