«My players already know what I want of them»
Here is what Vladan Ivić said on Saturday, after his successful debut at the helm of PAOK’s senior side.
On the game against Panetolikos:
On the first day on the job, I told the guys that nobody is in this team by chance. We tried to change things. We first changed the system and were disciplined from minute one today. We had possession and several chances before netting the opener. Players gave it 100% and we secured our victory«.
On the changes that led to a good performance:
I remember that a team had started off well in some games, but after the last match they were under pressure. We had just a few days to work and the players’s low morale was obvious. We tried to change that and make them show what they can do, show their quality«.
On whether he was expecting a good performance:
I can’t say I expected that 3-0, but I sure was expecting a good game and the team being focused from minute one. It’s very important to keep a clean sheet. The rain prevented the two teams from actually playing football in the second half. At that time, we needed focus and brains and we reacted well. We did exactly what we were talking about at halftime and deservedly won«.
On how he experienced the managerial switch from the U20s to the seniors:
It’s not that huge a change. I have worked with some of the guys in the past. I know that it will be different, but we will make an effort to prepare for each game separately and do our best. When one is appointed at the helm of PAOK, they first have to realize who they are and the responsibility that goes along with this position. I know where I am, I can’t say that I was in pressure, but I had to be more focused on what instructions to give to the players, so that they bring out what we wanted«.
On Kace and Athanasiadis:
Kace has played in many games –and today he was among the best. The most important is how players work in trainings and their level of dedication. It’s not about being regular or not. The players themselves engage themselves in a game or take themselves out of it. Everybody knows what kind of player Klaus is and what he brings to the team. He has to play in order to score. He played very well today, he had chances, he worked in midfield, held on to the ball, played one-touch football and did exactly what we wanted of him«.
On choosing Vítor:
We worked some things in training and today we brought that work out on the pitch. I also tried Stelios and he will be getting games under his belt. Vítor, Tzavellas and Malezas all had a good game and I am satisfied«.
On whether he was puzzled by Panetolikos’s tactics:
I wasn’t particularly puzzled. The player behind Markovski isn’t a clear-cut forward and we expected him to play like this. Panetolikos had a chance to score, when we were 2-0 up, but nothing more happened to puzzle us. I repeat that the guys had a very good game«.
On what he expects from now on:
Our main concern is to recover all the injured players and have a full roster as soon as possible. The players already know what I want of them«.
