“I am always ready”

José Alberto Cañas spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the encounter against Panetolikos in Agrinio. Read his answers regarding the factors that will decide this match, Cimirot’s departure, his own form and PAOK’s advantage gained over Atromitos in the Greek Cup quarter-finals:

27.01.2018

On whether he feels lonely now in his position:

«Cimirot’s departure might not be good for the team, because he is a very good player and a great guy. However he calls the shots regarding his future, this was his wish. I will definitely miss him, but that’s football».

On whether he is ready to fill the void:

«I am always ready».

On last Wednesday’s encounter against Atromitos:

«It was a tough match, because Atromitos are a very good team, with quality players. They defend and counterattack well. Such games are always difficult. However we need to adjust to this, since almost all Greek sides adopt such a playing style against PAOK. On Wednesday we were good, compact and patient in our passing game. We scored twice and now we need to build on this good result».

On Sunday’s match:

«Panetolikos are a very good side. They have good attacking midfielders and a quick squad. As I said earlier, almost all teams adopt a counterattacking style against us. I trust in our team. I believe we can show our potential in Agrinio and face this match with the same determination we have been displaying lately».

On the deciding factor of this game:

«We need to remain focused, be cautious when our rivals break into counters and in dead-ball situations. The result will mainly depend on our own behaviour. If we play to the best of our abilities and apply what we have been rehearsing in trainings, we can win. It’s very important though to remain 100% focused and be strong in the last 25 metres in order to score. We must take advantage of the fact that we have excellent attacking players».
